KCUE (Korean Council for University Education) held “2007 KCUE-HRK Higher Education Policy Forum” with the title of ‘Strengthening Korean-German Higher Education Relationship in a Changing International Environment’ at Sogang University on October 2nd.
As a follow-up action for the MOU KCUE and HRK (President of German Rectors’ Conference) made last year, the forum was aimed to exchange both countries’ opinions on university system development and to search for possible cooperation schemes between two countries.
Opened by a short remark of Dr Norbert Baas, the German ambassador to South Korea, the forum was enriched by main speakers including Dr LEE Jang Moo, the chairman of KCUE (president, Seoul National University), professor Dr Margret Wintermantel, the president of HRK, Dr SOHN Byung Doo, a vice-chairman of KCUE (president, Sogang University), professor Dr Burkhard Rauhut, a vice-president, HRK (Rector, RWTH Aachen), Dr Christiane Gaehtgens, the Secretary-General of HRK, Dr KIM Young Shik, the Secretary-General of KCUE, and many other respected guests. The forum consisted of three sessions, each session involving presentation(s) followed by discussion. The sub-themes discussed in each session were as follows: ‘Excellence in Research and Research Collaboration’, ‘A Changing University Landscape’, and ‘Enhancing Mobility between Korean and German Higher Education Institutions'.
