A Workshop for ‘Admission Officer System’[20071217]

A ‘Workshop for Admission Officer System’ was convened at COEX conference hall in Seoul for two days from 17th to 18th of December,2007.

Participants were directors of admission offices and admission officers from 10 model universities which are experimenting with the newly launching system.

The 10 schools are the Catholic University of Korea, Kunkuk University, Kyungpook National University, Kyung Hee University, Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University, Inha University, Chung-Ang University, and Hanyang University.

Under the theme of “Selection of the Future-Oriented Students to Educate Global Leaders”, two presenters—the director of Admission Support Service Section from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) and Professor YANG Jung Ho from Sungkyunkwan University— introduced admission inspector system of foreign countries in the morning session of the first day.

In the afternoon session, Professor NAM Bo Woo, one of the two chairpersons of field inspection and consultation for the admission inspector system, reported overall opinion and pending tasks met by some model universities were reported as well.

The morning session of the second day started with general report from KIM Moo Bong, the other chairperson of field inspection and consultation for the admission inspector system, followed by 5 model universities’ presentations on pending questions and discussion.

In the afternoon, the invited speaker Professor Shozo Takata, the director of University Admission Center at Waseda University, delivered a special lecture on “Japan’s University Admission System;  focusing on Waseda University.” Heated arguments on his lecture followed right after his presentation for more than four hours without recess, which reflected the high degree of interest in the issue.

It was a great opportunity to share information on different admission systems in Korea and Japan. Professor Shozo Takata thanked for being given the good opportunity and he also hoped for another meeting in the future.
