On May 22 and 23,2007 the 9th Session of the Regional Committee Meeting for the agreement to recognize studies, diplomas and degrees in higher education in Asia and the Pacific was held in Ritz Carlton Hotel, Seoul, Korea.
This meeting was co-hosted by KCUE (Chairman, Dr. Jang Moo Lee) and UNESCO Bangkok, and supported by Korean National Commission for UNESCO.
This meeting started with a special message by Dr. Jang Moo Lee, an opening address by Dr. Molly Lee (APEID coordinator and specialist of UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok) and a congratulatory address by Sam Yul Lee (Korean National Commission for UNESCO). Around 50 guests from 20 countries in Asia-Pacific region participated in the meeting.
Starting with the keynote address by Dr. Young Shik Kim, the secretary general of KCUE and chairperson of this session, this committee meeting was held with the theme, "Regional Harmonization: Establishing a Common Higher Education Area".
On the first day, there were reports from 10 countries including Korea, and on the second day, there was an election for the next bureau members, revision of the Regional Conventions, and discussion on following up actions and plans.
The participants shared the know-how to achieve the globalization of higher education at this meeting and also learned about individual countries' circumstances of education.
