The Korean Council for University Education (KCUE) held an international seminar on university accrediation titled “Higher Education Quality Assurance Systems and the Responses of Institutions" on November 3 at the Sheraton Grande Walkerhill Hotel in Seoul. Two hundred quality assurance-related officials from Korean universities, the government, and research institutes attended. The guest speakers and presenters were Dr. Jeanette Baird from the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA), Mr. Shin-ichi Hirano from National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation (NIAD-UE) in Japan, and Mr. Bob Warrington from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) in the US. Question and answer sessions followed each presentation. The seminar was intended to upgrade domestic universities' ability to manage quality assurance by sharing good practices from international higher education systems.
