Korean Council for University Education (Chairman: Jang-Moo Lee) held a press conference and proclaimed“Vision 415 for Higher Education,” which means 4 core policy tasks and 15 details.
KCUE plans to strongly request presidential hopefuls and political parties to reflect the declared vision in the next governments.
To structure these visions for the future, KCUE has conducted researches since last April and has already collected opinions from its member universities.
The 4 core policy tasks are as follows:
1) 'building epochal strategy for the promotion of university competitiveness’ which is now markedly low compared to the nation’s economy scale ranking the 12th biggest in the world
2) ‘securing autonomy of university administration’ as a means of enhancing competitiveness through maximizing capacity that will eventually lead to voluntary and creative development of universities in the endless competitions of the global world,
3) ‘promoting globalization of universities’ in order to position Korean higher education as the hub of Asian higher education as well as to educate best brains equipped with international sensibility and creativity for next generation,
4) ‘fostering human resources required by community and society’ to prepare manpower needed in society and to aptly utilize them, and to expand opportunities for higher education, all in preparation against reduction of high school graduates and centralization of brains in metropolitan area.
