The Korea Council for University Education (KCUE) announced the result of verification of academic records; 40 domestic degrees requested from 18 organizations turned out to be invalid and 22 foreign degrees requested from 19 organizations were invalid.

 Most of those who got invalid degrees were the people who didn't attend schools, didn't graduate, or got degrees from unaccredited schools.


 Since the beginning of its proxy service for verification of academic records in September 2007, the KCUE has taken over 13,047 cases on domestic degrees and 4467 cases on overseas degrees, of which 11490 cases of domestic degrees (88%) and 2635 cases of overseas degrees (59%) have been settled.

 The KCUE addressed that a number of schools and organizations still have been requesting verification for various purposes since the start of the service.

 For six months since it started the service, the KCUE found 62 invalid degrees; 40 from domestic schools and 22 from overseas schools.

 It informed the client organizations of the result. Those who claimed to have degrees actually didn't finish their courses after they entered schools, or got degrees from unaccredited universities. 26 persons who claimed to have domestic degrees just completed their course works without getting degrees.

 14 persons didn't enter the school at the beginning or no academic records were found at all.

 In case of overseas degree, most cases were getting degree from unaccredited institutes. It was found out that some people with just bachelor's degree or master's degree claimed that they had got a doctoral degree.

 Some people even submitted the transcript of their fake diploma.
