Korea-UK Round table Forum on Higher Education was held in Sookmyung Univ. on May 31, 2007 co-hosted by Korean Council for University Education and British Council.
The opening address by Byung Doo Son (president of Sogang Univ. and vice chairman of KCUE) started the forum, followed by a congratulatory address by Kyung Sook Lee (president of Sookmyung Univ.). This forum was presided by Young Shik Kim (Secretary General of KCUE). Among the participants were Mr. Bill Rammel, the minister of education, and presidents of 5 universities in UK and (vice) presidents of 4 universities in Korea.
They discussed current issues on higher education of each country at the forum.
After Young Shik Kim's report on "Current situation of higher education in Korea", the participants had time to discuss for the betterment of university education such as innovative ways to bring up qualified students who are required from companies and universities in the future.
In addition, both parties shared the idea that there have not been enough exchange programs between Korean-UK universities, and then agreed to set up a concrete cooperative plan, starting with this occasion.
